**Dr Suvi Hyytinen – Specialist Obstetrician, Gynaecologist & Fertility Doctor**

Dr Suvi Hyytinen was born in Cairns and raised among the sugarcane fields of Tully in North Queensland. She later relocated to Sydney to study medicine at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), graduating with her medical degree in 2002.

She spent five formative years in surgical and obstetric/gynaecological residencies at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Children’s Hospital, and the Royal Women’s Hospital in Randwick. Suvi then returned to Queensland to begin her specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Dr Suvi completed her Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in February 2014, having trained across multiple Queensland centres including Nambour, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (Herston), Townsville, and Cairns. During this time, she worked alongside leaders in the field and undertook training in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) gynaecological surgery.

Between 2014 and 2016, she served as a Staff Specialist at Cairns Hospital while concurrently completing a Master of Reproductive Medicine at UNSW, graduating with an Award of Excellence in June 2016.

Dr Suvi has extensive experience in Indigenous health, providing outreach clinics across remote and regional Queensland, from Tully to Weipa. She also began training as an ACRRM registrar and spent seven years working in After Hours General Practice before returning to Brisbane. She is a committed educator, having supervised medical students, RMOs, and interns.

Since 2016, Dr Suvi has worked in private practice, offering comprehensive care across general gynaecology, pregnancy (obstetrics), and fertility medicine. She brings special expertise in laparoscopic surgery and is known for her tireless dedication to patient care.

As a mother of three, Dr Suvi understands firsthand that pregnancy care goes beyond the physical. Her philosophy is grounded in holistic, woman-centred care — tailoring her approach to meet the individual needs of each woman and family.

From fertility to pregnancy and beyond, Dr Suvi provides continuity of care through every stage of the reproductive journey.

Continuous support during Pregnancy  and during birth  from the same  maternity caregiver has been associated with a positive childbirth experience and reduction in adverse pregnancy outcomes including preterm birth
